A diverse set of customer needs from the self-employed is driving the demand for specialist residential mortgages, according to a recent statistical survey by Paragon. This reflects the sharp increase in the number of people in the UK who are self-employed – up 24% over the last 10 years to number 4.8 million in the last quarter of 2017. Out of 198 mortgage intermediaries questioned, 21% said self-employed applicants dominated their client base.
